The competition historically featured the demanding Mount Buninyong circuit in Ballarat, known for its significant climb and technical sections that test endurance and tactical prowess. Since 2025, the championships have moved to Perth, introducing new challenging courses. These include fast and flowing circuits for time trials with moderate climbs, tight and technical street circuits for criteriums demanding sharp cornering and explosive power, and road race courses through Kings Park and the CBD featuring uphill drags and punchy climbs, often peaking close to the finish line. The early January timing of the event often means racing in warm Australian summer conditions.
